An illustration featuring a few main characters from my graphic novel-in-development, Penumbra: Vihaan, the prince of the pastoral kingdom of Jardinia, Lydian, a bard from the undersea kingdom of Plutarch, and Mei, a squire hailing from the forest kingdom of Brumea. Here, Vihaan introduces his friend Lydian to the world of video games while Mei watches cautiously—and curiously—from the sidelines.
Vihaan is an interesting case: an orphan from a strange land called "New York City", he was located and adopted by Queens Josephine and Giselle after the latter had a vision of the new prince in her sleep. Being fond of all things pop culture, from comic books, to video games, to Saturday morning cartoons, Vihaan is the first to introduce the dreamlike continent of Oniria to things like Game Boys, compact discs, even monthly magazine subscriptions. But there is also much Vihaan has to learn about life on Oniria—will his naïveté toward his new dreamy life prove to be more a boon or a burden?
