Final Fantasy XV Centaurs: Noctis

You all should have seen something like this coming: I love video games, I love centaurs, so it’s only natural that I’d mash these passions of mine together (once again) sooner or later! This time I’ve taurified the leading men of Final Fantasy XV, my third most favorite installment in the Final Fantasy series. I actually had the idea to draw the Chocobros as centaurs all the way back during Taurgust of this year, but alas September came more quickly than I anticipated and I just hadn’t revisited the thought since. Thanks to the encouragement of @oneirois on IG, though, I’m excited to finally bring this particular idea to life!

Perhaps it’s better I didn’t get to this back in August as I’d originally hoped, since my first notion was to just draw each of the Chocobros as traditional horse-based centaurs. But, seeing how they each have such beautifully distinct personalities, I thought it’d be fun to reflect those personalities in the animals that constitute their lower halves. For the lithe and lethargic Prince Noctis, something feline was the obvious choice: being fast and formidable in battle but wont to fall asleep as soon as he finds a comfortable enough spot for a nap, there is a lot Noctis has in common with everything from the common housecat to the big cats that rule jungles and savannahs across the globe. Therein lies yet another reason why I choose to make Noctis a felitaur: even though he isn’t half-lion (mainly because lions aren’t goth enough to go with Noctis’ whole aesthetic), it makes sense that the Chosen King of Lucis would have legs from at least the same genus as the King of the Jungle if he were a ‘taur. More subjectively, petting and holding cats are two of my favorite pastimes, and there’s no greater feeling than when a cat chooses to sit on your lap… and well maybe I just think it’d be fun if Noctis sat on my lap.
