Mermay 2019: Mist

The overwhelming majority of media always seem to portray mers, particularly mermaids, as belonging to one of two camps: there's the vindictive, territorial kind who drown sailors (à la Siren, Pirates of the Caribbean, even Peter Pan), and then there's the kind with beautiful, bewitching voices who are generally kinder to humans than their more savage counterparts (think more Ariel or Marina... or Sora in Kingdom Hearts II 🐬). I've had a decided preference for the latter type of mer throughout my life, which is why I was so drawn to Mist the Mermaid when our currents first crossed. Mist's effervescent attitude and sunny disposition are positively contagious, and it's hard not to smile whenever she shares photos and stories of her life under the sea. Fittingly, her singing voice rivals those of the most musical mermaids in media, her siren song leaving only one question to be asked: does she take requests?
