Mermay 2019: Gabriel

I’ll never understand why the little mermaid wanted to become a human, but still I have to respect her for following her dream (even if she was a bit foolish in her decision-making—exchanging her voice for legs? falling in love with a man she’s never spoken to? Girl!). After all, to not have a dream for one’s life is to waste the potential for a life well-lived, and that’s one of the many reasons I appreciate knowing the many mers in my life: each of them have the courage to make their dreams a reality while they’re still living, and in following them, they provide me with an ounce of that courage to fill my own life with a bit of whimsy and wonder.
