Link's traversed his fair share of aquatic environs throughout the Zelda series, everywhere from the infamous and labyrinthine Water Temple to the bowels of Divine Beast Vah Ruta to every corner of the expansive Great Sea. With each plunge, Nintendo devise a clever new way for Link to maneuver underwater, whether it's as simple as giving him a pair of flippers or as enigmatic as outfitting him in a tunic that allows him to breathe underwater (still not sure how that works). Two of my favorite methods Nintendo have come up with, however, include the Zora Link transformation in Majora's Mask (THE best Zelda game... fight me) and (unsurprisingly, considering it's me we're talking about) the oft-forgotten Mermaid Suit from Oracle of Ages—that's right, folks, one of Link's hobbies includes mermaiding! (or mermanning, I guess) I could never choose a favorite between these two: swimming as Zora Link through Great Bay remains one of the most ludic experiences I've had in a video game so far (not to mention... he got that big fish tiddy energy 👀💖), but, being the mer-enthusiast that I am, I can't just just ignore the fact that the Mermaid Suit, well, exists. Thus is my dilemma: do I like Link better with fins on his head? or his tail? I guess I'll just have to flip a coin to find out!
