MerMay 2020 Commission: @redrivermerman

In many stories and myths throughout history, merfolk have been the subject of countless escapist, romantic, and even—🙊—sexual fantasies, from the earliest tales of lustful sailors meeting their doom at the claws of beautiful, seafaring predators to films like Splash! or Miranda depicting an unlikely love fountaining between a man and a mermaid of the less-threatening variety. I'm definitely grateful that depictions of merfolk in our modern era have become more nuanced and accessible to wider audiences, but I'd be lying if I said I still don't fantasize every once in a while (read: literally every day) about escaping to a life under the sea or falling in love with a mysterious and alluring mermaid or merman (or merperson!). So, when @redrivermerman commissioned a portrait from me asking to be drawn like "Ariel's gay uncle", I was more than eager to get started on it. Thanks, @redrivermerman for your order! This is certainly a fantasy I'd love to see brought to life some day 😋
